Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild 2025

May 14 - May 18

Our organization originated almost 30 years ago when a group of ladies got together on a town green in Vermont, and strung a clothes line so they could hang their hooked rugs to show each other. Since then, we have grown to over 500 members throughout North American, Europe, and even in Japan. We are one of the largest rug hooking guilds in the world!

We are a volunteer run non-profit organization (no paid staff) dedicated to education about the art and craft of rug hooking.

We fulfill our mission through a variety of programs. Our goal is to promote the craft of rug hooking through exhibitions, instruction and education. We hold a biennial exhibition (“Hooked in the Mountains”) open to the public showcasing the work of our members. Rug hooking workshops are offered during the course of our exhibit.

Also, our members volunteer to teach rug hooking for various organizations and community groups. The Guild provides the tools and material. Through our education program, adults and children can learn how to hook in two different styles, traditional hook or punch needle.

In 2005, the Guild donated copies of “Hooked Rugs Today” to every public library in the State of Vermont. “Hooked Rugs Today,” by Amy Oxford, showcases our Guild’s 2004 exhibit at Shelburne Museum.

In addition, we provide annual scholarships, named in honor of two late members and recognized rug hooking legends. The Patty Yoder Scholarship allows rug hookers each year to study rug hooking at “Hooked in the Mountains.” The Ann Ashworth Scholarship is given to individuals to pursue their craft at rug hooking classes of their choice
